Benefits of printing test proxy cards with YGO Print
How much ink (and money) can you save by printing your proxy cards with the proxy deck tool from YGO Print compared to the non optimized PDFs generated by other tools?
We wondered the same thing, and we measured it to get concrete data, thanks to an analysis based on PDF files generated in 3 different ways, examined with a tool that uses the official ISO/IEC 24711 method for calculating ink consumption
Prints and consumption compared
We generated three test PDFs:
- Non optimized PDF, photos of the cards in color
- Non optimized PDF, photos of the cards in black and white
- PDF generated with YGO Print, optimized for proxies
The files were analyzed with the pdf-ink-coverage-analyzer tool to estimate the ink volume per copy, expressed in milliliters (mL) and calculated following the ISO/IEC 24711 standard
Color

Ink Volume per copy
(calculated using ISO/IEC 24711):
Cyan: 0.0036 mL
Magenta: 0.0037 mL
Yellow: 0.0017 mL
Black: 0.0061 mL
Total: 0.0151 mL
Black and white

Ink Volume per copy
(calculated using ISO/IEC 24711):
Cyan: 0.0000 mL
Magenta: 0.0000 mL
Yellow: 0.0000 mL
Black: 0.0073 mL
Total: 0.0073 mL
YGO Print

Ink Volume per copy
(calculated using ISO/IEC 24711):
Cyan: 0.0000 mL
Magenta: 0.0000 mL
Yellow: 0.0000 mL
Black: 0.0016 mL
Total: 0.0016 mL
The data clearly shows that YGO Print uses far less ink than other tools:
Total consumption per copy is about 10 times lower than color printing and about 5 times lower than black and white printing.
More than just ink savings
In practice, with YGO Print, with the same amount of ink:
- You print about 5 times more cards compared to standard grayscale printing
- You print about 10 times more cards compared to full color printing
- You print more readable proxies, with higher contrast, larger text, no unnecessary information
But the benefits don’t end there, with YGO Print
- You protect yourself from meta shifts and banlists: you don’t spend money on cards that become useless shortly after
- You learn to play many decks and you play them in their complete version, with the full extra deck they deserve, even expensive cards
- You can include in your games friends who are less interested in the hobby, who would never buy real cards
- You strain your eyes less when reading card effects
- You don’t worry about damaging expensive cards
- You print easily in languages other than English, but still learn the English name, which is always included on the card
YGO Print solves all these problems, free and without installing anything
The deck tool is the ultimate Millennium Item
We ourselves want a tool that JUST WORKS, you paste your deck and boom, there it is! Time to print it- Convenient search and decklist import, with interfaces designed to quickly find cards
- Lightweight images: you don’t have to wait long for the PDF to generate, images load immediately during selection
- Fast language switching: if you’re preparing for tournaments in other languages, you can switch language quickly without regenerating complex files
